Since this morning felt like a Sunday, my Mom and I decided we wanted brunch instead of breakfast...so I went scouring through the fridge to see what I had. Thick cut bacon...check! Eggs...check! Whole milk (left over from Christmas baking/cooking)...check! Yummy Dutch Pancake for brunch!
This is an old family recipe my cousin, Eileen used to make when she would come to visit us from Memphis when we were all younger. I finally conned her into giving me this recipe, so now I can make it whenever I have a craving. I prefer to serve this with some yummy maple syrup, but it is also good with sour cream and a little brown sugar sprinkled on top. De-Lish! (Note: next time I will remember to snap a photo). Enjoy :D
Dutch Egg Pancake
Yields 4 to 6 servings
Ingredients:
4 Tablespoons butter, melted
6 Large egg, whole
1 Cup flour, all-purpose
1 Cup milk, whole
1 Teaspoon salt

Melt butter in a heavy iron (or other oven-safe) skillet in a 425-degree oven.
Beat eggs vigorously for 30 seconds. Beat in flour gradually. Mix in milk and salt.
Tip heated pan to coat with butter. Pour in batter and bake 20 minutes.
Lower temperature to 300 degrees and bake 5 minutes.
Cut into wedges and serve with warmed maple syrup, or sour cream and a little brown sugar.

BBQ Pork Sandwiches
I found a great recipe on allrecipes.com yesterday for BBQ Pork Sandwiches. It is super easy to make and way cheaper than going out for BBQ. I used Sweet Baby Ray's original BBQ sauce and it came out great. I also made a pork rub with garlic salt, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, paprika and dried parsley. And I added a beer to the beef stock about halfway through the slow cooking process. This is a really easy way to feed a whole family!

La Madeleine Tomato Basil Soup

Whilst one of our followers (hmm, hmm, Hearn) believes that this restaurant will turn all straight men gay, I believe that this "fact" should be ignored for their amazingly awesome Tomato Basil soup. I have a recipe clone that tastes identical and it pairs wonderfully with your favorite grilled cheese sandwich. Enjoy!

Marked by Kristin Cast
This may be a strong substitute for the Twilight series. I am only a couple chapters in, but so far I am enjoying the tenor of the book. The story is conversational, not so contrived and self-involved as Twilight. And I actually like the protagonist. This is the first book in the series.
The premise so far is that vampires exist, it is a genetic abnormality, but they are still considered monsters. Once the fledgling vampires (that until now are human) are tracked down they have a limited amount of time to get themselves to the House of Night school where they will learn to be super vamps (or something like that...I have only read two chapters). If they don't get to the school then they will die.
I think it will probably be a nice mix of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris and the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers. So far I am really enjoying the voice that they author has created. I have seen these novels all over the grocery store, so you can pick them up anywhere.

re: Percy Jackson
I know what you mean!! When I first heard that they had aged everyone up, I was irritated. However, I think that I will reserve judgement. The trailers that I've seen look really good, and if they do it right, it could be awesome. My biggest worry is how they will set up the rest of the story, especially the prophecy, for more movies if The Lightning Thief does well. I'm dying to see a movie version of the last book, The Last Olympian. It was my favorite of the whole series.

Percy Jackson Movie
Is anyone else irritated beyond belief that teenagers and twenty-somethings are playing the roles of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. Apparently Chris Columbus wanted to start with younger kids, but it didn't work out that way. Chagrin! I wish he had stuck to his guns and set it up like Harry Potter. Even my nephew, Alex, is bummed.

Welcome to Feed and Read
I hope that you are all doing well this holiday season! I have finally created the page for our new book/recipe review blog. The goal is that we share new recipes and books that we enjoy (or HATE) with each other. I am going to give everyone access to post on this site. It may require information from you, so bare with me while I get everything organized.
